Highclere Castle in Berkshire (South East England) is the actual castle that features in the award-winning series Downton Abbey. Set in 1,000 acres of parkland, this Victorian manor is home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, whose family have lived on the site since 1679. Downton Abbey author, Julian Fellowes is a longstanding family friend and had Highclere in mind while writing the series.
At the castle you can experience Downton life first hand: sip tea in the café, stroll the gardens, and admire the sumptuous interiors, many of which were used for filming. Due to season restrictions at Highclere Castle & Gardens, please check with us before booking to ensure the location is open for your tour.
In addition to Highclere Castle, guests on the Downton Abbey tour will be offered the unique chance to visit other locations used for filming the series, which can include the City of Oxford, Bampton (St Marys Church), Swinbrook (Swan Inn), The Old Forge Shilton, and Castle Combe in the Cotswolds (voted most pretiest village in England).
For lunch our tour guide will happily give you a number of options to choose from on the day. Food is available at either of the tour locations.
